AI Web Basics

What is the AI Web?
The AI Web is a machine-readable publishing layer built on top of the human web. It is a set of standards, conventions, and architecture that allows AI systems ... language models, answer engines, and AI agents ... to understand, cite, and navigate websites without human intermediaries.
What is an AI-ready website?
An AI-ready website is one that implements machine-readable standards including schema markup, llms.txt, AI endpoints, clean semantic HTML, and clear entity signals. These allow AI systems to correctly identify what the site is about, who created it, and whether its content is trustworthy.
Does my website need to be rebuilt to become AI-ready?
In most cases, no. AI readiness is primarily about adding a machine-readable layer on top of your existing website: a llms.txt file, JSON-LD schema blocks, AI endpoint files, and structural improvements to your HTML. A complete rebuild is rarely necessary.

AI Web Standards

What is llms.txt and why does my website need it?
llms.txt is a plain-text file at the root of your website that tells AI language models what your site covers and what content matters. It is analogous to robots.txt but for AI comprehension rather than crawl access. Websites with a well-written llms.txt are easier for AI systems to understand and more likely to be cited accurately.
What is schema markup and how does it help AI systems?
Schema markup is structured data embedded in your web pages using JSON-LD format. It explicitly tells AI systems what type of content a page contains (Article, FAQ, Organization, Person, etc.), who created it, when it was published, and what topics it covers. Without schema markup, AI systems have to infer this information from context, which is less reliable.
What are AI endpoints?
AI endpoints are structured JSON files served at predictable URLs on your website. Common examples are llm.json (site identity), ai-sitemap.json (content index), and health.json (operational status). They function as a lightweight API for AI systems to access machine-readable data about your website directly.

AI Search Visibility

How is AI search visibility different from traditional SEO?
Traditional SEO focuses on ranking pages in Google's search results by optimizing for keywords, links, and technical crawlability. AI search visibility focuses on being cited by AI answer engines (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini) by optimizing for machine-readability, entity clarity, topical authority, and structured data. The two disciplines overlap but have different requirements.
How can I get my website cited by ChatGPT or Perplexity?
AI citation starts with making your website machine-readable: implement schema markup, add a llms.txt file, deploy AI endpoints, use clean semantic HTML, and build topical authority with well-structured content. Websites that clearly communicate what they are, who created them, and why they are trustworthy are more likely to be surfaced and cited by AI answer engines.

Our Services

What is the AI Web Audit?
The AI Web Audit is a structured review of how ready your website is for AI systems. It evaluates schema quality, content structure, entity clarity, AI endpoint readiness, llms.txt setup, citation potential, knowledge graph alignment, and technical crawlability. The audit produces a readiness score and an implementation checklist.
What is AI Web Ready™ Certification?
AI Web Ready™ is a certification framework for websites that meet a defined set of machine-readability standards. Certification includes a readiness score, implementation checklist, a badge, a directory listing on AIToAIWeb.com, and annual renewal to confirm the site maintains its readiness as AI web standards evolve.
